The Bundeswehr also uses .50cal barretts with the designation G82.

I agree that for civvies it is not easy to find a .50cal range but for the armed forces it is not a problem whatsoever.
Name me one army in europe which has no easy access to .50cal ranges?

Using .338 over 50. cal has many advantages, not least in training. Most military 600metre ranges are not certified for use with 50. cal, but will accept .338 Super Magnum rounds without breaching safety regulations for the butt crew. So for penny-pinching European nations you get an excellent and capable weapon without having to upgrade your ranges.
Yeh but it just does not have the power or the range that a .50 can offer.

No reason to go from the 7.62 to a 30-06. they both use the same bullet ones has a longer case one is fatter.. There is a 200fps advantage to the 30-06 but it requires a longer action and the 7.62 has proven to be more accurate. They both have about the same effective range.

Barrets are not made by sako, they are made in Tennessee, USA by barrets own factory.

I did some research and the 30-06 and the .308 both travel at 2800 f/s and have the same effective range. I also looked up the 1903 Springfeild rifle has an effective range of 550M and the M16 with the 5.56mm rounds also has a 550m effective range, though the M16 can also be used at 800m ranges too.
