The point I was making is that these are Queen Elizabeth Class Ships. Warpite was a Queen Elizabeth class ship as well, the 2d to be precise. So I think it would have been great to try to recapture that lightning. Warspite wasn't just a great name she was a great ship (Probably in the running with the Enterprise as the greatest warship of all time) . I wouldn't classify the Prince of Wales as a great ship.
There are several classes within the RN which have come around twice. The River Class, or Invincible Class for instance, if you want conteporary examples. To my knowledge, the RN has never attempted to relive history by naming each ship within the class the same as before. If or one am glad of that. Forward not back...
As for not considering Prince of Wales a great ship name, I'll have to massively disagree with you on that!!
Firstly, there's been many PoWs. In the She was Admiral Calder's flagship at the Battle of Finisterre in 1805, and prevented a Franco-Spanish invasion of Great Britain.
She epitomised Pax Britanica as one of the Agamemnon Class in the mid 19th century, being one of the first screw-driven warships in the world, and then became Britannia, the Dartmouth training ship.
She supported the Anzac landings and defended the Channel (as flagship) as one of the Formidible Class.
And the one everyone knows... the George V Battleship. Hunted the Bismark and Prinz Eugen. Carried Churchill across the Atlantic for his famous meeting with Roosevelt. Prevented any kind of Axis maritime security in the Med.
Prince of Wales is a great name, I actually prefer it to Queen Elizabeth (you know what they say about naming ships after women)
