MiG-29 to Myanmar (Burma)

Ran into this at Lenta.ru: Lenta.ru: Îðóæèå: Ðîññèÿ ïðîäàëà Ìüÿíìå 20 èñòðåáèòåëåé ÌèÃ-29

Apparently MiG won what looks like a tender for 24 fighters, with it's main competitors being Chinese. However I have not heard news of any such tender, or even Russian sales offers. Burma already operates 12 Fulcrums, so this addition makes some sense. I was wondering if anyone knows whether these will be VVS inventory, re-builds, or new builds? And what variant is being offered? If it's VVS inventory, these are S, if re-builds SMTs, if new builds then M2s.

Has there been any information about how the first batch are doing? According to ACIG the 1st Fulcrum deal was very unpopular with the air force.

According to this report, J-10s and FC-1s were offered by the Chinese.

This report mentions the Fulrums are SMTs

Something here about the returned Algerian Fulcrums

J-10 would not be offered to Burma at this point. 100% sure it's JF-17, since they are trying to sell it to everyone right now. I'd be interested in finding out exactly what type of Mig-29 is offered too, because $29 million is really a bargain if it also includes missiles and ground attack munitions as indicated in one of the articles.

The returned Algerian Fulcrums are currently in active VVS inventory. At least that's the last I've heard of it. I'll check later and see which airbase they're at. However it does seem strange that MiG lands a contract for exactly 24 SMTs, which is how many were produced and purchased out of the the Algerian contract. I wonder if they're the same ones.

This is getting murkier and murkier. DefenseIndustryDaily claims that the deal is 400 million euro contract that involves 20 MiG-29D. However even King Google could not tell me what a MiG-29D is... The difference in types makes this suspicious. Normally DID is a better source then lenta.ru but this is pretty strange.

More MiG-29s for Myanmar

Also apparently this is NOT the Malaysian MiG-29N, as the article specifically mentions that this edges out Malaysian opportunity to sell theirs off.

I think Myanmar is going to get the Mig-29s returned by Algeria. I am pretty sure there is no such thing as the Mig-29D. It is not mentioned in Migs official website. Also the Russians are not making ANY NEW MIG-29 MODEL for an order as small as 24 air craft. the migs could also be new. Russia is making a lot of SMTs for its own air force. Any ways almost all the reports I read from 5 different websites said that the Migs were SMTs. Also the number mentioned in all these websites was 20.

They could be the Algerian ones. Or they could be VVS inventory, overhauled. Because the Algerian MiGs were paid for the by the MoD. They were also given to an active unit.
