:) Hello to everyone. My name is Rob and I presently live in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. I am 62 years old. I have been a keen student of military history (especially naval) all my life, but my only military service was three years in the Australian Army Reserve (then called Citizen Military Forces).

I am especially interested in the development of the RAN and visit and photograph all Aussie ships that call into Hobart. I often despair at the 'fitted for but not with' policy that thankfully seems to be coming to an end. It was very pleasing to see the Harpoon missile launchers on Warramunga during its last visit.

I came accross this forum when a Google search lead me to an article by Aussie Digger.

I look forward to contributing to future discussions.

welcome to all the new members. i hope you all enjoy yourselves on her.

Tasman, One of the things i like about hobart was those rare moments when the USN would bring in both HSV1 and HSV2 at the same time for some fitouts and mods. - Much nicer than the usual fare....

G'day and welcome.

There's no doubt that the F111 is one of the most successful defence assets ever acquired by Australia and there must be nostalgia felt by all Oz defence enthusiasts about its ever nearer passing.

As well as the thread mentioned by robsta the newer thread - FA/18F's for AUSTRALIA??? looks at the F111 replacement issue.

Hullo

Greetings,

Just here to add my tuppence worth.

I've been reading the thoughts & comments that have been posted here over the last 6 or so months, after receiving a link for the site from a colleague at work.

I'm employed in the manufacturing side of some of the fine equipments that are debated here, as well as having a healthy interest in some of the technologies & ideaologies that you discuss (incl. tactics / capabilities).

For obvious reasons, I'll decline stating for whom & where I work, but it's safe to say that it's nothing of a secret or specialist nature.

Welcome to DefenceTalk folks! Please don't forget to tell your friends about DT!

Ironduke, welcome, good to see you around here! :)
Thank you for your welcome.

We actually implemented a few ideas we saw on DefenceTalk 3.5 years ago, such as three categories in the Military Forums. We do, however, seek to innovate and give an entirely custom theme and format for our community.

I'm sure we've both had mutual suspicions in the past, but lately they have been allayed. I now view DefenceTalk as a site that is largely non-competing with ours, and vice-versa, with largely exclusive memberships.

From what I've been able to infer, DefenceTalk is a premier website for defence and military discussion, getting into the more nitty-gritty technical aspects and being on the forefront on defense industry developments.

On WAB, though we share things in common with DT, we do our utmost to present ourselves as a premier site for geopolitical and strategic affairs. In this regard I see our communities as being non-competing in many respects. I am personally seeking to orient ourselves toward more of a strategic affairs-themed site.

We both have a large, solid cores of military and defense professionals, and people flock to both of our sites for professional commentary.

I am glad to say that I have been in increasing correspondence with Gary (gf0012-aust) on WAB, and his insights and feedback have been invaluable.

I must stress that I'm not a military or defense industry professional -- my main task is organizing and fostering a sense of community, building theme, format, etc., as well as taking an active interest in military, defense, geopolitical, and strategic developments from around the world.

Nice to have you on here.

I agree with all your prev sentiments. The worlds a big place, and I don't see any reason as to why sites can't share or co-operate across lots of areas.

In the end, everyone wins.

Hi Guys.
How's everyone here?Well am a newbie too in this forum so let me introduce myself.
Name:Yunus Khan.
Age:25.
Place:Quetta(Pakistan).
Profession:Teacher.
So that's all about me.As you can read from my profile that am not even remotely connected to the armed forces as many of my brothers are in this forum yet its the passion about the defence related products that attracts me to defence sites like this.
Lastly I would like to ask a question to the mods here.I may sound stupid but please bear with me.
So the question is "Is there a possibility of the fighting falcon being sold to individuals,i.e without any government to government contact"
Thank you.

Hi,

My name is Peter, age 42 and I´m living in Sweden. I´m a purchaser in a construction company. I have three small children so I really don´t have the time to join this Forum but it looks to promising to not join it.

In spite of coming from Sweden my main interests are the defence forces of New Zealand and Australia both historic and present.

Cheers
Peter
