:D hi I am new here so if I were wrong i would like to apologize 1st,

as far that I ve know that during the emergency era in Malaysia or simply to said during the communist insurgent era the greatest fighting squad is belong to police squad, I did asked to a retired police veteran, he quote that during that time, most of the communist feared is the police special ops or something in similar, instead of the army, this retired police officer did mention he did asked to one of the capture terrorist and asked him between the army and the police which is the most feared unit the police or the army, the terrorist reply they most feared enemies is the police instead to the army as during that time when the army walk or patrolling or tracking them thru the jungle they can notice their activities and also they were loud or noisy as for the police unit there is no way to for them to sense them or detect them at all as they are like a ghost…

:)
Mate from my way of thinking you have no need to apologise, for anything
a very good post.:)
I too have heard that the Malaysian Police squads of that era were very good and bluddy scary if ya was a insurgent. (not that they can't be these days) The fighting, in what i from ignorance call Borneo was carried out by many very highly trained people, from all the combatants on the Malaysian side.
I am just glad that Malaysia stood her ground it took over a decade of rough times but Malaysia, with the help of some good friends (we still are) got their and became the modern Indepedant Stae we know today.

It took more than a decade... I got shot at by communist insurgents in
various parts of Johore (and around Mersing) in 1985.

while it is good that more malaysians are now IT savvy, it would also help to check and re-check your English 1st before actually posting
some post are very hard to read

PASKAL does training with a lof of other SOF, not just Navy SEALs
but going back to Vietnam War, i think a number of Americans and Aussie went through the Jungle Warfare School in Kota Tinggi, Johore before they go to Vietnam (at the time British-run)
and some Malaysians also went to Recondo School
not going through the courses but looking at what they teach there.

Is that a regular sort of thing around those parts (getting shot at by commies)?
It was the dying days of the insurgency. In actual fact there was an agreement (in the village of Mersing) with the local communists that they would not fire any rounds or shoot at anyone during chinese new year - that was to ensure that people could let off explosive fireworks etc without panicing about getting shot at. Unfort they broke the agreement and I ended up with a bullet hole in the back of the village elders car are I was travelling in. :unknown

Yep the Commie's probably still thought they could gain control in the 80's, possibly still do.
A possible scenario of the times was to Kill some Aussies soldiers to start up a media confrontation and try and break what at times is a very testy relationship.

To be a stickler for detail i did write "over a decade".
Glad ya weren't hit gfoo, typical commie and terrorist op, breaking seize fires.
whether as a army or as individuals.
Keeping ya hands in the game still gfoo, that's the way to go mate

Are you sure about that? Did many Australian soldiers die in the confrontasion and after?

Very, very few Aussies were KIA or DOW or Died in the theatre of ops, during the emergency or confontation
Their work as usual was extremly professional and hard working out in the field.

I was talking of a 'possible scenario' of a possible attempt by the Communists to attempt to break or sow mistrust, by shooting some Aussie's and the resulting media circus driving a wedge in the relationship between the two nations.
If so then the Aussie's may have removed troops, thus leaving the Commies one proffessional force of excellent jungle fighters less to have to worry about bumping into out in the J!

No i am not sure of that, though with the political relationship between the two nations, as i said can be very testing at times, so any military problems at certain periods, caused by Commies when the two were not getting along, could of came close to breaking what should be a close relationship.
.
