Slat Armour

Why wasn't the slat armour installed on the units that were delivered? Is it because of the width of the aircraft? Is the armour going to be installed?

How is the slat armour attached to the side and rear? I would have thought the brackets that hold it are welded on, but the vehicles that were delivered don't appear to have any brackets or any marks where brackets had been attached.

With this slat armor a Leo gets to big for air transport. :)
That's what I figured.

I see that the brackets are painted sand yellow, whereas the vehicle is still in its NATO colours. I know that the other vehicles in a-stan are in Nato colours, so these are probably not going to be repainted. However, is it just me, or doesn't anyone there realise that the yellow slat armour stands out against the mostly green background and will not afford any camoflauge? I guess camo is not a concern, since these Leos are the hunters, not the hunted.

stuff

Just caught up on the whole thread and have some observations:

1) I would be very careful how many canucks you want here Waylander, as all you will be doing is talking about ice hockey (real) hockey that is.:D

2) I am very interested in the deployment to the ghan of the leo, as there is a running argument here in the USA that the leo's armor is more suited to handling IEDs then the M1. Its kind of like the density/porosity debate in ceramics.

3) The cage is.... interesting. It speaks volumes of the communication between Iraq and Afghanistan, or lack of. That is, I wouldn't think that info funneling through Iran would be lost in translation but it appears to be the case.

cheers

I also wondered about the cage.
At least they don't use cages on their LAVs or on the Leo 1 in A-stan.
And the frontal hull and turret side shouldn't be at risk of getting penetrated by anything less than a RPG-29/7V.

They also don't intend to use cages at all at the PSO version of the Leo II...
