Maybe each cruiser will be be part of a carrier battle group, one for the Cavour, one for the Trieste. And each CBG will be guarded by 1-2 submarines.

One concept thought of was a barge type vessel , this earlier type was considered at twenty knots but perhaps an upgrade could be faster it would be interesting the costing difference between a few of these a opposed to 10,000 plus ton air war warfare destoyer
