Israeli Special Forces

I think they are not frightened of a conventional war.
They are more frightened of a guerilla war like from '82 till 2000 and of the international clashes.

I read a news article about the EGOZ elite unit, part of the Golani brigade. This is an unit specialised to fight guerilla's like Hezbollah. In recent fighting in S-Lebanon they took heavy losses (at least 5 dead).
Who knows more about this unit ? Is this a full batallion ?

Well, one thing is for sure, Israeli special forces are not that stealthy.
They have been ambushed so many times.

As far as the capabilities of any special forces unit is concerned, there has to be some realism involved in analyzing their capabilities. First of all, unless the government is genetically engineering these soldiers, they are still human and therefore slave to all the faults that humans have. SF training may teach them how to survive for longer and on less (or whatever is available) in the environment they are operating in, but that would only allow them to be in the field longer without having to replenish supplies. They may also have an advantage in terms of the equipment they receive and the discipline their training inculcates. That seems about it. Recon would seem to be their forte or perhaps limited engagements against forces that would, for a limited time at least, offer proportional resistance and therefore give the SF guys a bit of an advantage during that time frame to accomplish their mission.

Take the killing of Al Zarquawi or however this top terrorist in Iraq was named.

And what do they do? Do they send special forces or at least the normal forces to go and get him?
No. All they could come up with was droping another bomb into another civilian living area.
When it comes to the likes of Al Zarquawi or Bin Laden or whatever taking him out isnt worth risking the lives of even 1 coalition serviceman. Better to let the bomb do it imo.

Funny how `heavy losses` are described these days..

Catching such a man is nevertheless the better option. Creating another mortyr and with such a display of incapability is not the message you want to get accross in a guerilla war.

As far as i know 7 man is a average unit size for such special forces and 5 out of 7-9 would be quite heavy.
marcvs75 seems to think this unit might be battalion strength (around 1000), whether all the KIA were lost in the same team isn`t clear. My comment was assuming that the unit is larger than one team.

So what are you saying? So in the house, when those two guerillas fired through the door of the room they were in and started tossing grenades into the hallway where the Israelis were that the Israelis were supposed to try to capture these guys alive? hahaha.
I quoted the wrong posting. Sorry. I'm used to that the quote-button is on the upper end of a posting window from other boards.
I wanted to respond to the Al Zarqawi posting.
(Just edited it.)
