If the budget for subsidies is spent correctly, and not to useless things like military training for Kopdes participants, 105.000 pickup trucks directly imported from India for Kopdes and more than 25.000 electric motorcycles from an unknown chinese brand for the MBG-program, then the budget for subsidies can be cut by maybe 50% or something.

And now there are plans for other stupid ideas, like free smartphones give-away programs.

It is better to spend some of the budget to build prisons for corruptors and people who causing those huge forest fires.

But, that's what my point in here say:

They will find other subsidies program, especially aim to 'lower class'. Once they set the fund allocation for subsidies program, then it will stay move around between one subsidy program to another. If they cut one program, they will find another subsidy program.

This already happen for decades since Soeharto time until now. Because all this 'reformasi/demokrasi' regimes learn from New Order. You keep subsidy running well, your political fortune stay. Soeharto will not fall if he can keep economy going through, along with well manage subsidy program. He as dictactor slip in this effort on his last years. His opponents (more likely his turn coat lackeys) use the oppprtunity in the name of democracy to pull him down.

Wow, as an Aussie, i have never heard of this operation! Cu-dos to the TNI!
We all hear about the "Operation Claret" and other dark ops conducted by the ADF, but rarely, if ever hear the other side of the story.

All base on TNI-AU source and veteran on this operation. That's why I stated as their claim. This all base on Interview from 1999 Angkasa magazine toward some AURI veterans.

This is the English translation from portion on Tu-16 Alice Springs infiltration claim.

The last unit flew to Alice Springs, Australia.

This time, the aircraft's loadout was not filled with bombs, but rather with various items ranging from canned food, parachutes, communication devices, and other supplies marked "Made in Indonesia."

These items were to be dropped onto the targeted location as a psychological warfare tactic (psywar), proving that Indonesia's military combat power could reach them at any time.

"This aircraft, piloted by (Air Commodore) Suwondo, carried equipment such as parachutes, communication devices, and canned food. The idea was to drop these items near Alice Springs, Australia (right in the heart of the continent), to prove that the Indonesian Air Force (AURI) was capable of reaching the heart of the continent," explained Angkasa Magazine No. 12, September 1999, Year IX.

However, Alice Springs was guarded by a radar system capable of monitoring the entire Asia-Pacific region.

Nevertheless, the mission had to proceed. Suwondo ordered his men to gather at Wing 003 Headquarters at 11:00 PM. There, all the crew members involved were informed that this mission would involve infiltrating Australian airspace.

"He only ordered us to be at Wing 003 Headquarters at 11:00 PM while bringing a supply of drinking water," explained Sjahroemsjah, a Tu-16 crew member who took part in the mission.

Once preparations were complete, a single Tu-16 took off at 1:00 AM. This intercontinental night operation was intentionally carried out during the dark hours to evade interception by RAAF F-86 Sabres and the Bloodhound surface-to-air missiles guarding Australia.

The mission was a success; the Tu-16 dropped the package at the target and returned to its home base by 8:00 AM.

"In the 1960s, people could not have imagined that AURI was capable of conducting an aerial penetration without being detected or caught by the defenders," he stated.

On complete interview in late 90's the crew in fact quite surprise that no action taken by RAAF fighters to intercept them even when they are on return leg. This why they (AURI Tu-16 Crew), claim manage to create surprise. Will they can repeat that again ? I really doubt it. The Tu-16 basically fly light, thus manage to have range to Alice Springs on low level flight all the way.

However this shown that in 60's the radar coverage on approach to Australia Continent being claim by AURI team can be breach. This I believe more on the purpose of this flight to Australia and North Borneo, shown the commenwealth they (AURI) have capabilities to do infiltration and radar penetration.

Indeed a very remarkable word/rumour....
A330MRRTs from modified Garuda Indonesia A332s was the most logic choice.

Maybe the maximum range of the A340-500/-600 is a reason behind this (if true), safety or ETOPS?

I still think why buying A400M MRTT and Il-78 MRTT indicates there is something in A330 MRTT can't provide.

Perhaps the reason why A330 isn't being chosen
is due to:

. No ramp door
. Runaway length requirements

Choosing A400M and IL-78 for MRTT means not only choosing ramp door and shorter runway operation, but also choice to only keep Probe and Drouge Fighters operation in future. No more boom operation like F-16 or KF-21.

However if KF-21 going to be choose to augment and replace those 3 sq of F-16, then A330 MRTT still on option.

As choosing A340 over A330-200 (base for MRTT), Acquisition cost and range in my opinion is the reasoning. Present VIP plane are B737 BBJ and Falcon 8X, and both have 6000+ nm range. A330-200 have 7000+nm.

If looking for both range and size the only A340 version that provide advantage on that area over A330-200 is A340-500. This A340 ultra range version (9000nm), is being phased out from commercial use, thus I'm preety sure Brokerage can find a good condition bargain to be converted for VIP/C&C fuction.

A330 MRTT & A400M are complementary, not competitors. Most A400M operators have bought refuelling kits, & use them, but also have airliner-based tankers, mostly A330 MRTT.
