yes , on the recent military excersice with Malaysia they could deploy 10 C-130 for paradrops + they made their own CN-235. A question though ... did indo build super puma ? just curious :p

Well, im not sure about the super puma....but they do build the CN-235 or the mini Hercs. They sold Pakistan a few of those in 2004 and now Indonesia has inked a deal with South Korea to sell them 20 to 40 CN-235s.

So while the Aussies see Indonesians as "Monkeys and cannibals" and the rest of ASEAN sees Aussies as "genetically inferior uncivilized descendents of convicts and the filth of Europe" there is zero chance of an arms race between Indonesia and some of its neighbours.
Get a grip, this is just plain rude. Australia has gone out of it way to help Indonesia because a stable Indonesia is good for every one in the region. If we considered Indonesia in such a poor light we wouel not have provided the assistance we did during recent natural disasters.

You should note the Australia gave Indonesia 1 billion dollars to help rebuild. Buying high level military goodies when what is needed is an effective transprot and patrol assests is a bit odd in light of this.

Dirgantara Indonesia Delivers NC-212, CN-235 and NSA-330 Helicopter to Indonesian Department of Defence

(Source: Dirgantara Indonesia; dated Nov. 29, web-posted Dec. 4, 2006)

Dirgantara Indonesia has successfully delivered a number of aircraft and helicopter to Indonesian Department of Defence on November 29, 2006 in Bandung Plant, West Java. A unit of CN-235-220 Troop Transport and a unit of Puma Helicopter NSA-330 is for Indonesian Air Force, while a unit of NC-212-200 is for Indonesian Marine Corps.

The delivery of the aircraft was personally signed by Acting Director President of. Dirgantara Indonesia, Mochamad Mochajan and General Director of Indonesian Defence Facility, Major General Selamet Prihatino.

The NC-212-200 Maritime Patrol uses a digital communication, navigation, and mission high technology. It also uses FLIR (Forward Looking Infra Red) to see a long distance target with more than 15 km away in a dim light. The radar can reach a target that lies more than 180 km away. The aircraft is also able to run within five hours non-stop.

The Puma Helicopter engine has been modified (Turmo IV to Makila 1A-1) and the maintenance is based on the contract made by Dirgantara and Department of Defence.

Indonesian Su-27 dan Su-30 jet fighters have avionic problems

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) has admitted that two of its Sukhoi jet fighters, an SU-27SK and an SU-30MK, had an avionic problem and could therefore not be operated properly.

"The two Sukhoi jet fighters cannot be used because of an avionic problem (a problem with electronic devices in the aircraft)," Air Force spokesman Sudipo Handoyo said here on Monday.

He said the two Sukhois could not be used because some parts for one of the avionic devices had yet to arrive from Russia where the jet fighters were made.

"Although we have the money to buy the avionic parts from Russia, we can do nothing because the parts are out of stock. But we will continue to wait," Sudipo said.

It was reported earlier the two Sukhois were based at the Hassanudin military airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi, but because of the avionic problem they could not take part in a joint military exercise this year.

Consequently, only two of the four Sukhoi jet fighters which arrived from Russia in 2004 would be used in this year`s joint military exercise. (*)

Russian subs deal torpedoed

Angus Grigg
Jakarta

Indonesia has cancelled plans to buy two advanced Russian submarines and halved an order for fighter jets, just as Australia and others in the region ramp up defence spending.

...

Dr Sudarsono said Indonesia was focused on economic development and social welfare, but would look to buy two cheaper submarines from Germany or South Korea over the next decade. "A country the size of Indonesia really needs eight to ten submarines, but we can only afford two." he said.
Indonesia would purchase three Russian fighters as it needed to maintain some "technological parity" with neighbours.

There was an article on rian.ru about Indonesia being interested in Russian amphibious tanks. Whether they meant the PT-76, or some amphib IFV that the reporter called a tank, I don't know.
