Indonesia: 'green water navy'

Please tell me that the museum piece is about ready to be pensioned off.

It has been readied for decade more, but the schedulle keep push back. When 2 SIGMA 10514 PKR come to operation, it is expected 2 of Van Speijk going to be retired. Turn out only 1. When 2 PPA come to inventory, it is also expected 2 Van Speijk will be retired. So far PPA not replacing them.

Rumours say that the replacement will be the interim Frigates. The offer come from China Type 053H3 or Japan Mogami, and so far no decision on this yet. Some of them will be retire when new Frigates (New or Interim ones) enter inventory, as TNI-AL need the crews of those Van Speijk. However I got the feeling at least one or two will be maintained on longer period. The picture shown one of them in Maintenance shown that.

VL Launcher reported still functional, however MinDef has not adding more missile order. The order for P-800 mostly in my opinion part of trials base. Supposedly they choose Brahmos as alternative instead, but as shore base defence missile, but not on ship base.

3 Very Light Attack Vessels (call KSSR in Indonesian) prototype being build by 3 shipyard. This supposedly going to have option for manned and unmanned operation:

This is already in discussion for several years. Now being signed as PAL effort to get partner on retrofitting 3 DSME 209 Nagapasa class. Thus NG basically push away original manufacturer DSME/Hanwha Ocean on this project.

This also in my opinion close the deal for DSME Batch 2 and strengthen NG partner for PAL submarine facility development. This retrofit plus Scorpene 2+2 project strengthen NG preference with PAL on underwater partnership.

Seems the talk on somekind of hybrid of diesel electric or gas electric changes from current Gas and Gas propulsion. But since it is still studies, means the retrofit will still some time away. no contract yet with PAL and Fincantieri.

Like you said, if even the MRO of the Type 209/1400 Nagapasa Class is given to DCNS/Naval Group, a rival/concurrent of DSME, it really means that the Indonesian government decided to cut ties with DSME.

But it is also remarkable that DCNS wants to take care of Type 209 submarines, and that HDW or Gölcük Naval Shipyard aren't selected for it.

2231 Norinco RPG Type 69-1 already coming to enhance Marines RPG 7 base. From Keris FB.
Primitive and obsolete compared to something like the NLAW, but those things are around $30.000-40.000 each, and with a price of $2341,45 for each of these RPG-7 copies, you get 17 × more stuff. I wonder how reliable and durable these chinese copies are.

It is easy access in market, and already 'battle proven' in several conflicts including some already use by both side in Ukraine war. So it is cheap and quite reliable.

Anyway, Koarmada 2 (2nd fleet command) shown photos online of 3 VLS equip vessels that TNI-AL have.

According to some sources, the three Nakhoda Ragam/Bung Tomo vessels are already upgraded with the MM40 Exocet Block III, but the original VLS for the Seawolf missiles are still installed, right?https://nasional.kompas.com/read/20...korvet-upgrade-rudal-exocet-block-3-dan-radar

Indonesia validates post-upgrade missile capabilities of Bung Tomo frigate

From what I gather still with Bung Tomo and John Lie. While Usman-Harun that doing MLU (for 4 years already) already being replace by VL Mica. Then again PAL and LEN problematic progress on the MLU still not clear yet when Usman-Harun will be done. Supposedly this year on schedulle.
