1. its not out yet

2. Its sayin they built testin tunnels and etc.

3. last time i checked the US and austrilia were pioneers in scramjet tech

4. the official said "will be the first" not we are the first. There a difference
The US said it will the first to get to space and it got beaten by the soviets.

5. Scramjet tech is far from scramjet missile

6. achieving the level of tech india has achieved is amazing though

actually work on this project is pretty advanced

1)the engine has been ground tested.

2)the heat shield has been tested and is currently in use of indian satellite launch vehicles and the agni ballistic missiles.

the first test launch is to be carried out in 5 years time, the prototype model will weigh 3 tons and will be launched by a gslv rocket but will be recovered like a conventional aeroplane .

the unique feature of this system is that when it is fully developed it would be able to take in oxeygen from the atmosphere ,liquify ,store and use it as and when required. this technology has been patented.

actually i remember reading an article long ago that the concept of this hypersonic vehicle was first developed by usa ,but it was rejected as being too expensive ,it was found by an indian scientist who brought the concept to india when he returned back to india, they then added the ambitious oxeygen liquification concept to it to give this concept its present form.

The idea might have originated in the US but the first to test this tech was Austrilia. They lauched their first scramjet in the 90s. The US i think has the speed record right now.

Either way scramjets will not be used in civilian or military application for a good 10-20 years.

actually scram jets as defence project are being researched, some examples are the franco-german lfk missile(dont know the status of this project ,just saw 1 pic and some info in a very old flight magazine).

Yeah but you missing my point. It is not going to come out(be fielded) in 10-20 years.

That franco-german anti ship missile, it was canceled.

IT IS NO SUPRISE THAT INDIA IS GOING FORWARD WITH THIS PROJECT .HOWEVER IT HAD RECENTLY ACQUIRED SIGNIFICANT SUCCESS IN HYPERSONIC ENGINE DEVELOPMENT.IT IS SAID THAT IT WILL GO FORWARD WITH HYPERSONIC TEST FLIGHT IN NEAR 2007 SOMEWHERE IN ANDHRA PRADESH.MIND YOU INDIA IS NOT FAR BEHIND ITS IMEDIATE COMPETITER CHINA.IN FACT IN SOME FIELDS IT HAS PROVED ITS MIGHT WHERE CHINA HAS FAILED.FOR EXAMPLE CHINA HASN'T HAD ANY SIGNIFICANT SUCCESS IN THE FIELD OF MILITARY PLANES EXCEPT SOME COPIED ONES{which deserve no appreciation}WHERE HAS INDIA HAD MADE INDEGENIOUS LCA WHICH MAY NOT BE FAMOUS BUT FAR MORE ADVANCED THAN FC-1
gettin pissed off eh. Why don't you get your LCA off the ground. tsk Tsk Tsk it's been what....30 years.
