the propulsion system has been successfully tested this .the wind tunnel tests have been completed .the scaled prototype tests will take place in 2006 followed by the drdo variant which will be the size of mig25 and is meant for defence applications this will be followed by the one for space applications.the link is protonriver.com
the article is titled avatar there are pics of the avatar on the site.realistically i think the smaller one will be ready by 2015-2020
I'm yet to see a mach 7-10 wind tunnel.

I guess it will be made wholly titanium airframe. mighty expensive aircraft, and expensive technology since titanium are known to be hard to take certain shape.

Obviously it's low orbit capable.

I rather use it for strategic recce rather that bomber though.

The stealth characteristic might be purely accidental since hypersonic speed require smooth airframe design resembling stealth design. look at SR71.

a scaled model was displayed at the aero india show also the iits have facilities for computerised testing of a design.by the way the aircraft will have a lot of composites (ceramics) the biggest challenge according to the indian scientists would be developing the heat shield for the avatar.the scaled model will (1/10) first be tested in about 2 years time it will be launched by means of sounding rocket and recovered conventionally.

India should develop a fighter bomber for its tactical needs - in 2 decades or so!?!

I dont think india should invest in any dedicated bombers. Su-30 and jaguars are pretty damn good strike aircraft unless ego's run high and Tu-22 is seen as a necessity. Su-34 can be a good option too but lets hope Russia is able to provide spares since Russia itself is not so sure of acquiring Su-34 in large numbers.
