Comparing 5.56 caliber assult rifles?

In my opinion I think everyone should replace the 5.56mm round with the harder hitting 6.8mm round. It has much better stopping power, and there have been incidents in Iraq that U.S. troops fired at some insurgents and the 5.56mm round did not knock down the enemy in one shot there have been reports that sometimes it took 4-5 rounds but that seams a little extreme to me. A combo of 6.8mm and 7.62mm bullets should be a good mix of weapons for the U.S. Military but other nations that use the 5.56 as well.;)

The question is would 6.8mm really do that much more damage?
Is the destructive channel of the 6.8mm that much bigger?

In the end it is more a question of hitting vital parts.

If there is no vital part in the way of a 5.56mm bullet than a 6.8mm is also not going to get the target down for most of the time.

And many countries already operate 7.62mm besides 5.56mm in their groups in the form of GPMGs and DMRs.

BTW...
I say the M16A4 and M4A1 is the best 5.56mm assault rifle in my opinion.
Again I ask you on what do you base this statement of you?

Sorry I did not know you were talking to me last time, its from my own personnel opinion thats all. I was not saying replace the 7.62mm with the 6.8mm I was saying replace the 5.56mm with the 6.8mm. I know the U.S. Military did tests on the 6.8mm and it knocked down the metal target with one shot well they fired multiple 5.56mm rounds and none of them knocked down the target. In modern warfare Militarie's need a round that has real stopping power and the 6.8mm can do that, the 5.56mm round just does not deliver enough power to the target and that can be a life or death situation.

But the point is not pure stopping power.

A target which is hit into some vital area by a 5.56mm is going to be dead or heavily injured.
The question is not the power of the bullet itself but if one needs this increase in pure penetrating power.

If the wound channel of a 6.8mm is not that much bigger than that of a 5.56mm than you don't get much better performance against enemy targets.

And the same amount of 6.8mm ammo is heavier and that in an environment where IMHO every pound is important.

Coming back to the original question.
It is ok if it is your opinion that the M16A4 and M4A1 are the best 5.56mm ARs out there.
But why do you think that?
The look? The handling compared to other weapons? The toys one can hang onto them? The reliability?

Mostly the just the look...why did you want to know?

As if a have expected it...

Because if one wants to discuss different kinds of weapons and their advantages/disadvantages the look is hardly an important point.

I think the M4/M16A2 looks rather ugly especially looking down the barrel when one has pointed it at you.:unknown :D

do you have any data to reinforce your claim,if you havent any of the above?

i hope its not just because they are american weapons, thats not what this thread is about...
