The JMSDF still has four destroyers (three of them now used as training ships) with Olympus engines, & there are quite a few others around the world. Most are scheduled for retirement soon, though.

The design in that graphics that CAMM provide shown much resemblence with Damen Crossover. Seems Swerve got a point there on Damen Crossover or similar design that got interest more from Chilean Navy and perhaps not Type 31 kind of Frigates design.

Olimpus turbines still have a short life span, so the best option is to replace the entire platform and go for live power plant, with LM2500 turbines we have support for a long time

In Fragatas a futuro, I think the companies that could win the contract could be Babcock with its Typo-31 but something like a lot 3, Fincantieri some FREMM design, Naval Group with its frigate Belharra, Bae Systemsc with its type of frigate. 26
A couple of interesting choices there, Damen is of course a very experienced Frigate designer and builder and could be offering either the Sigma or a version of the de Seven Provencial, BMT either the Venator 110 or 140(type 31) but Vard is an unusual one, they are probably offering the Vard 7-125 but have no experience in building Frigates only OPVs.
The type 26 are not cheap. It will cost Australia $20-30b US in all up costs to put 9 into service and Canada $40-50b US for 15 ships to give you some idea and a Chilean build of between 2-4 ships is going to cost a lot more per Ship.

Be good if they did, though. The Chileans are pros who have always operated their second hand stuff with great effectiveness; adding them to the T26 group would be advantageous to the group, Chile, and the western world. Suspect it will all come down to money, as always.

I wouldn't be surprised if Chile purchases another Type 23 to replace the Type 22 ex-Sheffield Almirante Williams. I believe the next Type 23 to be retired may be Argyle in 2023.

We need to be careful how we quote pricing. The Australian project cost includes the construction of a modern digital ship yard, through life costs, supporting system costs in addition to the actual vessel cost.

I am not saying a T26 will be cheap but comparitive costing is difficult without a common reference point and pricing model.

The biggest Sigma's very small, in a different league from the Type 31, let alone the Zeven Provincien. The Zeven Provincien is a high-end air defence ship. Sigma 10514 is 40% of the tonnage (half the tonnage that Chilean sources say is aimed at) & classed as a light frigate or corvette.

Venator-110 or Type 31 seem feasible, as does a Damen Crossover.

The only Chilean source i have to go on is what @CAMM_Chile provides above and he was only guessing on BMT, so i am happy to accept your better knowledge in this area, it’s pure speculation on my part going on what was posted by CAMM. But even the Sigma 10514 would be a regionally superior Ship to anything else found on the West Coast of South or Central America, Peru and Columbia operate fleets of 70s to early 80s built smallish Euro Frigates.

Interesting, it appears Chile has two versions of Seawolf, Seaceptor, SeaSparrow and now ESSM and SM-2, I assume Barak has been retired. Just imagine if they had SeaSlug in the mix as well :p.

With the acquisition of the Adelaides and ESSM you would imaging they would be looking to convert the M Class to ESSM, but still they will have four types of missile.

Seawolf in the Almirante Williams was replaced with the Barak 1 in 2008. Currently only Almirante Condell is still fitted with VLS Seawolf though should be upgraded to Seaceptor in the next couple of years. Completely agree, it would make sense for them fit ESSM to the M class. According to the attached article Chile does intend to fit Goalkeeper to the FFG's. I wonder if they'll try to alter the hanger to fit their Super Pumas like they did with the M class & Type 22. Cheers. Australia transfers Adelaide-class frigates to Chile | Jane's 360

They could also scrap ESSM and use Sea Ceptor on the Adelaide Class frigates. The Sea Ceptor is sensor and CMS agnostic, so all that they have to do is integrate it. It's more advanced than the ESSM variant that they may have acquired with the frigates.

Adelaide Frigates in Chilean Navy Crew Exercises

Adelaide frigates acquired by the Chilean Navy, photographed on 2 May in Jervis Bay, Australia. The antiaircraft Frigates FFG-11 "Capitán Prat" (Ex HMAS Newcastle) and FFG-14 "Almirante Latorre (Ex HMAS Melbourne) of the Chilean Navy, are on manoeuvring exercises in Jervis Bay, Australia.

This is in response to the training of the Chilean crew, which is underway at the Fleet Support Unit Training of RAN Sydney (FSU-SU) in HMAS Kuttabul and will continue during the month of May. However, due to the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, the date of the final transfer of the ships to Valparaiso has not yet been confirmed. (Photographs: Rob Slater)

Sí, el Williams puede ser reemplazado por Typo-23

viraje

Almirante Condell is scheduled to start a refit this year in which Seawolf will be replaced by CAMM, etc. Same modernisation as Cochrane's had, & Lynch is currently undergoing (began June 2019).

Damen has Omega Frigate design. These based on DZP Hull but seems with more GP roles. They offered it to Indonesian Navy on last IndoDefence to pit against Danish Oddense Iver Huitfelt based design (in which Type 31 derived from).

I have put Omega design from last IndoDefence in Indonesian Navy thread, but I put this again. Points is besides their crossover they have design that can be offered against Type 31.

I think Damen have enough range of Frigates design to compete in export market:
Light Frigates : Sigma to compete with Naval Group Gowind or similar class,
GP Frigates: They can put either their Crossover or Omega class against Type 31, Naval Group Belhara or Oddense Iver,
High End Frigates: They can put DZP against Type 26 or FREMM.
