Geez, I'm glad I didn't ask a complicated question! I didn't realise this could cause such differences in opinion.

Well, Corsair, how does Janes know the H4 is air-to-air? If it is indeed an a2a missile, then its GREAT news! But you have to take everthing with a bit of salt... not be overly optimistic. And Janes has gotten info on the JF-17 wrong on many occasions in the past... so I don't trust what they say. besides, if Pakistan is making a weapon, I'm sure our media has more accurate info than them.

and gf0012 to answer your question basically:

Right now, no pakistan F-7 has any BVR capability.

nope, and they probabaly never will get it taking in2 account the aircraft charachterisitcs but if pakistani engineers can put sidewinders on Mig-19s, they can probably make F-7s some real hot birds 2.

Ever heard of the Mig21 Lancer.
Give me a good reason after comparing the airframe of the F-7 with that of the Mig21's why a similar thing cannot be undertaken for the F-7PG/MG?

dear londo
sorry to correct u but u r repeatedly confusing between matra 530 & matra super 530d.there r 3 versions. 1.530 (plain) for mirage-111, 530f used by mirage f-1,and super-530d carried by mirage-2000 (early variants).
paf's first ever bvr's were 530's slaved into mirage-111ep's cyrano-11 radars. these 530's were developed for french af mirage-111's to intercept long range non manouvring bombers of the soviet forces in the early 60's.these missiles have a brochere range of 10 miles in non manouvring conditions and were used by israeli af's mirage-111cj's in june 67 war with near total failure. the only kill credited to these missiles was an egyptain af mig-19 downed by israeli mirage in 67 war. iraqi's have used 530f in the war with iran but no info is available about their success/failure.
