Hard to believe the pie eating guy from Wilson (with half of it down the front of his ill fitting shirt) and a hollow boom wasn’t enough to “deter” (well anything…) this ground assault, but here we are.

But good to see the base went (eventually) into lockdown (base warning system sounded between 5 and 8 times I am advised before anyone knew what was going on…) which means pers were literally hiding under desks…

Good to see our main bases are as secure on the ground as they appear to be from the air.

Can‘t stop individual drunks or civilian drones. I’m sure ballistic missiles will be no issue…

Northern Territory Police are continuing the search for a man who allegedly broke into RAAF Base Darwin, assaulted a member of the Australian Defence Force and stole a security vehicle before fleeing.

Australian Army accelerating drone warfare integration towards Talisman Sabre 2027 debut

I thought this was an interesting article, depicting how drone warfare is conducted, and the type of system the Australian Army is looking to implement. It's good to hear that the Ukrainian approach is central.

I was taken aback by the reference to Uber Fires, as a metaphore for how the system works. Also that the drone support for basic infantry today in Ukraine is the same as special foces could call on a few years ago.

Absolutely nowhere. Like basically everything else made in Australia, including the much touted OWL- B that has received less funding than almost anything else in defence, apart of course, from counter-UAS…

But I thought there was historic investment in defence, which is important given the “most challenging strategic situation since 1939”.

That, plus the fact we still are so interlinked with the PRC for minerals (notably iron ore) and students (both of which provide a significant chunk of our $$) continues to undermine the official line.

If they were the greatest threat ever - why are we selling them critical primary minerals and educating their next generation of pilots, sigs or PWOs? Or loggies and tech designers? Trying to remember what Pig Iron Menzies was reviled for.....

There has been some time since the delivery of the former Australian Abrams m1-a1 tanks to Ukraine ,I have previuosly read that these tanks were modified by the A.D.F to operate in muddy jungle terrain where they could get bogged , Ukraine also has areas of muddy ground that a similar issue could arise for heavy tanks and wondered if the modified tanks fared better than original unmodified ones

I’ve been a bit down on the magazine elsewhere in recent times, it seems to be declining in quality, just reproducing news articles a month after we’ve already seen them, but whether that is the magazine’s fault, or the lack of news coming out of defence, is hard to say…

Anyhoo, on a brighter note, this month at least (probably due to the proximity to Land Forces 2026) they have an interview with the Head of Land Capability, a fine gent no doubt who appears to be quite the master of saying a lot and nothing at all...

One of the very few straight answers given concerns Army’s precision loitering munition requirements and plans.

He confirms Army is about to send out production orders for Switchblade 300, Hero 30 and OWL-B to enable Army to (finally) deliver PLM capabilities “at scale”.

Interesting mix of systems…

I read it last week too and yes, he doesn't answer questions at all or if he does, he doesn't want to rock the boat! (The K9 quantity question for example).

The Innovaero stock price has gone soft since listing, hopefully the OWL-B news will push it up...

Interesting… Bladehaul, an unmanned autonomous bushmaster base that can carry a 20ft container or max 10t 600km. Transportable by c130.
hybrid or fully electric drivetrain.
