CAIRO: Yemen is ready to return MiG-29 Falcrum fighters, which it bought in 1994, to Moldova, a senior government official said Sunday.
“Our country is ready to return MiG-29 planes, which the Yemeni Socialist Party (YSP), in exchange for the sum paid for the purchase and the recognition of the illegality of the deal, the official told the Yemeni 26 September newspaper.
YSP was the ruling party in the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen until the country's unification in 1990.
In September 1994, the party started a rebellion aimed to separate southern Yemen from the Republic of Yemen and restore its statehood.
The leaders of the rebellion exiled abroad after its failure and were sentence to death in absentia.
Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh pardoned them in May 2003.
