Yakovlev Design Bureau, On 26 of July of 2006 the third prototype of combat-trainer aircraft Yak-130 crashed in the region of Spas-Klepiky city.
The aircraft had been performing the flight according to the State test program under control of mixed crew (military and civilian test pilots), when suddenly lost control in all three axes. The crew took efforts to recover the aircraft control but without success and decided to abandon the aircraft.
The pilots successfully ejected and were recovered by helicopter. The crew medical examination after the ejection defined them as “ready to flights without limitations”.
The State commission has conducted the careful investigation of this flight incident and determined the following:
1. Yak-130 crashed as a result of its simultaneous controllability loss in pitch, roll and yaw due to misoperation of fly-by-wire (FBW) system.
2. At present time the developers of FBW system (MIERA) conduct investigation with purpose to evaluate its safety and eliminate established shortcomings.
The State program flights of grounded Yak-130 are supposed to be resumed at the end of September – beginning of October of 2006.
The Yak-130 was insured by the Russian Insure Center that will finance the fabrication of the next Yak-130 at Nizhni Novgorod aviation plant “Sokol” in the third quarter of 2007.
