SOUTHWEST ASIA: U.S. Central Air Force's report that their air power summary for today is:
Coalition aircraft flew 34 close air support and armed reconnaissance sorties Oct. 31 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Coalition aircraft also supported Iraqi and coalition ground forces operations to create a secure environment for ongoing Transitional National Assembly meetings.
United States Air Force F-16s provided close air support to coalition troops in the vicinity of Al Mahmudiyah.
In addition, nine U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Royal Air Force fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.
In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 20 close air support and armed reconnaissance sorties in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to Coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities, and the conduct of presence route patrols.
United States Air Force A-10s provided close air support to Coalition forces in the vicinity of Tarin Kowt.
In addition, seven U.S. Air Force and French Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.
United States Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Horn of Africa. About 170 airlift sorties were flown, more than 330 tons of cargo, and approximately 2,600 passengers were transported. This included approximately 12,000 pounds of troop re-supply airdropped in South Eastern Afghanistan.
Coalition C-130 crews from Australia and the Republic of Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.
On Oct. 30, U.S. Air Force, Royal Air Force, and French Air Force tankers flew 33 sorties and off-loaded nearly 2.1 million pounds of fuel.
