HRK, Warsaw, Dec 9 – The United States intends to locate its first military installation in Poland near Poznan, a leading Polish newspaper reported Tuesday.
According to the Rzeczpospolita daily, the U.S. wants to establish an air force base in Powidz, near the Krzesiny air base, south of Poznan in western Poland.
The report comes on the heels of Monday talks between Polish Defence Minister Jerzy Szmajdzinski and U.S. Under Secretary of Defence Douglas Feith focused on the possible introduction of U.S. bases.
The officials denied having made any conclusive decisions, insisting instead the matter was still under consultation.
Last week the United States announced it was considering relocating some of its foreign military bases.
This week the U.S. intends to consult 12 different countries on the issue, including Germany and Russia.
