U.S. and Pakistan officials concluded five days of consultation May 5 in Washington, D.C., highlighting the strong and enduring ties between the two nations. Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Eric S. Edelman and Secretary Defense Lt. Gen. Tariq Waseem Ghazi (Ret.) led the delegations that exchanged ideas and coordinated defense policy discussions.
This was the 17th annual meeting of the U.S.-Pakistan Defense Consultative Group. The DCG discussions focused on ways to enhance the long-term strategic relationship between the two nations. Working groups met for three days and discussed improving the U.S.-Pakistan military relationship, including military to military exercises and training activities, procurement of U.S. military equipment and services under the foreign military sales program, and counterterrorism efforts.
