SPX, Malvern PA: USA Technologies has announced that the US Navy would be the first to take delivery of the new generation VM2IQ VendingMiser energy management units to come off the production line.
Nearly 700 new VM2IQs will be shipped to the US Navy to reduce the energy consumed in vending machines located on naval bases nationwide.
The VM2IQ is designed to be installed inside existing vending machines, and is capable of reducing energy consumed by about one-third, saving about $100 per vending machine per year. The first 1,000 units are scheduled to come off the USA Technologies production line in the next few weeks.
“We chose the new generation VM2IQ because it is a good alternative to the VendingMiser for high traffic locations. And it too will drive immediate energy savings,” said Mike Paolantonio, Manager, NEXCOM Service Operations.
“The VM2IQ and the VendingMisers are good choices for the Navy who is working to conserve energy and reduce overall costs worldwide. With the kind of payback offered by these products, they quickly pay for themselves.”
The VM2IQ comes with additional features, including technology that allows advertising, lights and controller functions to remain on while the machine is in energy saving mode.
When the cooling system is powered down, the VM2IQ monitors the room's temperature and automatically re-powers the cooling system every hour or two to ensure beverages stay cold.
The new VM2IQ was announced last October at the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) National Expo as an immediate, cost-effective and energy-efficient upgrade for existing installed vending machines. It incorporates the unique technology of the first VendingMiser into a tiny three-inch plug-and-play device, but costs less than its bigger predecessor.
“USA Technologies has multiple negotiations underway for sales of our energy management solutions elsewhere in the Federal Government Sector, which has approximately one million vending machines and refrigerated coolers in locations worldwide,” said Stephen P. Herbert, President and COO, USA Technologies.
“All these agencies are under an executive order to reduce energy costs, and the US Navy is among the first to lead the drive towards greater energy efficiency.”
Beyond the defense forces, USA Technologies has also experienced an increase interest from international companies concerned by increases in the cost of energy.
Last month, USA Technologies announced it would begin distributing the first of 250,000 VendingMiser and CoolerMiser energy management products to Italy, where the cost of energy is between two and three times the cost of energy in the US.
