Program Assists Physicians in Paying Education Loan Debt
FORT KNOX, Ky: Physicians who have joined the Army Medical Corps now have more financial assistance in paying their education loan debt.
The Army's Active Duty Health Professions Loan Repayment Program (ADHPLRP) provides up to $114,900 for repayment of qualified educational loans. The maximum annual repayment for FY08 $38,300 (pre-tax dollars) is contributed over a maximum of three years based on original loan balance. Under the program, qualifying loans for repayment may include tuition, principal, interest, school and related living expenses. Applicants must meet all other ADHPLRP eligibility, enrollment and administrative requirements.
The active duty obligation for the ADHPLRP is a minimum term of service of three years. Active duty obligation is served consecutively with any other existing education or training active duty obligation. Physicians who enter the service, join as a Commissioned Officer and can receive advanced rank based on their work experience.
As members of the Army Health Care Team, one of the most comprehensive and dynamic health care organizations in the world, Army Medical Corps Officers work with the latest high-tech equipment, technology and life-saving trauma equipment. In addition, doctors are free to concentrate on caring for patients and developing innovative new techniques and procedures rather than business tasks such as processing insurance claims or building a private practice.
