WASHINGTON: Airmen across the globe continued to support the Pakistan-led earthquake relief operations Oct. 15 – 18 in a massive movement of aid in the region.
Seven U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster IIIs and four C-130 Hercules aircraft assigned to operations in theater transported more than 441,300 pounds loaded on 74 pallets, consisting of clothes, sleeping bags, cots, tents and food. Additional cargo included vehicles, cargo loading and maintenance equipment, generators, and temporary basing equipment.
The 818th Contingency Response Group from McGuire Air Force Base, N.J., part of the 18th Air Force, Scott AFB, IL, deployed to Islamabad continues to handle the download of the daily influx of cargo.
Over the weekend, C-5 Galaxies began moving U.S. Army CH-47s into theater from three stateside Army bases. These helicopters are actively supporting Pakistan relief operations.
Throughout earthquake relief operations, U.S. Air Force aircraft have flown 31 missions transporting more than 250 passengers and about 1.3 million pounds of cargo.
Air Force support has been a Total Force effort with numerous active-duty, Guard and Reserve units have participated in the relief effort, including: C-5s from Travis AFB, Calif.; Dover AFB, Del.; Westover Air Reserve Base, Mass.; Kelly Field-Lackland AFB, Texas; Memphis ANG, Tenn.; Stewart ANGB, N.Y.; and C-17s from McChord AFB, Wash., and Charleston AFB, S.C.
