Sikorsky Aircraft, DUBAI, UAE: Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. and the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) have signed a direct commercial sale contract for 10 S-70A Black Hawk helicopters to upgrade the fleet used by U.A.E. Armed Forces. Sikorsky Aircraft is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp.
These helicopters will be used to support U.A.E. Armed Forces military operations. The aircraft will also be used to train pilots and technicians transitioning into this more modern and capable aircraft.
“The Black Hawk helicopter has a legacy of mission versatility that is recognizable worldwide,” said Sikorsky President Jeffrey Pino. “It continues to be the virtual symbol of our company mission statement that pledges to pioneer flight solutions that bring people home … everywhere, every time. We look forward to strengthening our company's relationship with the United Arab Emirates through contracts like these that keep the Black Hawk helicopter strong and serving its customers well.”
Currently operating in Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, Black Hawk helicopter derivatives serve 26 governments around the world in a diverse range of missions, from combat assault and peacekeeping to disaster relief and medical evacuation. Sikorsky also plans to introduce a Black Hawk helicopter model specifically for the international market, with production taking place in Mielec, Poland, and deliveries starting in 2010-2011.
