MENL, LONDON: The United Arab Emirates has selected a French-origin missile as its new sea-based surface-to-surface guided weapon.
Industry sources said the UAE Navy has selected the Exocet missile for Al Baynunah project. The project calls for the acquisition of at least four French-origin small corvettes.
The UAE has not announced the missile selection. But the sources said Abu Dhabi has chosen the Paris-based MBDA to provide the Exocet. They said the Exocet missile would be the MM40 Block 3 model.
The UAE has become the first client of the new Exocet model, the sources said. The MM40 is powered by a turbojet and marks a significant increase in range from previous models.
