MENL, ANKARA [MENL] — Turkey has ordered tactical military radios in a $10 million deal with the United States.
The Turkish Defense Ministry has awarded the contract to Harris Corp. for the Land Forces Command for systems to transmit voice and data. Harris plans to deliver the tactical radios in a project called Falcon II.
This is the first order by Turkey under the Falcon program. Harris Corp. is based in Melbourne, Fla.
Harris will supply the Harris RF-5800H-MP radios, an advanced, high-frequency manpack radio that provides tactical communications through enhanced secure voice and data performance. The radio can relay data at a rate of 9,600 bytes per second.
“We are pleased that a key NATO member such as Turkey has become the latest country to adopt the Falcon II HF radio,” Harris RF Communications division vice president Dana Mehnert said.
