Alenia Aeronautica, The Sky-Y unmanned air vehicle has resumed its flight testing at Vidsel, the Swedish test range where it had taken to the air in June and which Alenia Aeronautica also uses for Sky-X testing.
The new flight test campaign began on the afternoon of 3 October, with two slow taxi runs at 40 knots, followed on the next morning by four high-speed runs at 60 knots. After a further series of checks to ensure that all parameters matched expectations, the Sky-Y left the ground at 1 p.m. and stayed aloft for 32’ 22”.
This flight, the second in the project’s life, was entirely devoted to recording data on the handling of the diesel engine and of the quality of the flight control system at speeds below 100 knots and below 3,000 feet.
The limited duration of the flight was due exclusively to the limited time slot available at Vidsel, which is presently hosting a major international air exercise.
The planned test cycle will continue with other flights at gradually increasing speeds and altitudes.
