Taiwan Government News, TAIPEI: The Ministry of National Defense (MND) had no comment Monday on reports that the Army will make the purchase of MH-60M Black Hawks a priority in its helicopter procurement plans.
MND spokesman Wu Chi-fang was responding to reports by the mass-circulation China Times that the Army has decided to make strengthening its special operations capabilities a priority and that its policy on purchasing helicopters has taken a U-turn.
According to the newspaper reports, a plan to purchase troop-carrying helicopters, which was frozen by then National Defense Minister Tang Yiau-min, will be reinstated and now replace the plan to purchase assault helicopters,
The MH-60M Black Hawk, manufactured by U.S.-based Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., will be a top priority, the report said.
Wu said the MND “has no comment” on the report, noting that the issue of helicopter purchases is part of the military building plan which will first require study.
