Swedish Defence,
FMV has submitted the second complete equipment for a mobile air base to the Swedish Defence.
The first system is already located at the airbase in Ronneby and the second system will be positioned at the airbase in Luleå for future missions.
“It is a complex facility. It is basically the same equipment found in a stationary airport, although this is packaged in a dozen containers”, says Jan Sörberg, project manager at FMV.
The mobile air base is built with the redundancy and security to the regulatory requirements of the international ICAO regulations and RML (Rules Military Air Transport). Fully deployed, it is possible to manage the traffic corresponding to the traffic at Landvetter Airport in Gothenburg.
The system is built in modules and is scalable in five so-called service levels. The system can quickly start business on a small scale with a limited amount of stock and then grow, and thus have a greater presence in the function and sustainability.
“What I know, there is not this type of complete mobile airport elsewhere in the world today. The components themselves are not unique, but assembled in a mobile concept that FMV has done this, it's something completely new”, says Jan Sörberg.
The background to the two mobile airbase battalions is that Sweden has gone from a large number of military air bases and squadrons scattered across the country to only two operational squadrons, F 17 of Kallinge and F 21 in Luleå, plus a squadron of transport aircraft.
Therefore, there was a need to set up a temporary air base at various locations in Sweden, but also internationally, for example in case of a disaster or other international efforts. The mobile airport can facilitate transport in the area.
