Saab has received an order for two field hospital systems. The order relate to the integration of advanced medical equipment intended for the Nordic Battlegroup in 2011.
The order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) is worth over SEK 50 million and includes advanced systems for trauma care. The new systems will be delivered in November this year and are intended for the Nordic Battlegroup international response unit in 2011.
Same high demands as in civilian health care
The order is an independent continuation of the orders for medical systems that Saab received in 2007. This included options for further systems.
“FMV have also ordered configuration management, which means that we will undertake an upgrade of the equipment,” says Pär Jonsson, project manager and business developer at Saab Aerotech.
The project task is to integrate the various parts – tents, climate control systems, power supplies and medical equipment. The same high demands are put on field hospitals as they are in civilian health care in terms of function, safety, environmental management etc.
“The previous field hospital was something of a pilot project for the FMV,” says Pär Jonsson. “We have waited and hoped for a continuation following the completion of that project, and we are very pleased to have received this new order. It means that the Armed Forces can take further advantage of the comprehensive systems work that has already been done. ”
To the Horn of Africa
In 2008 Nordic Battlegroup, was on full readiness between January and June but was not deployed into active service. Parts of the previously delivered field hospital have recently accompanied the international naval force that will be operating in the Gulf of Aden off the Horn of Africa, a trouble spot where attacks by pirates threaten international shipping.
