PTI, THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A report of the high-level task force on utilising the defence production capabilities of Kerala-based Keltron and Keltec was under consideration, Union Minister of State for Defence O Rajagopal said here on Thursday.
The report contained short-term suggestions relating to placing defence orders with the two ailing state PSEs, as well as the long-term proposals like possible takeover of some wings of these two companies, Rajagopal told a press meet.
The takeover of these companies, as often requested by the state government, would require detailed assessment and evaluation before the proposals were placed in the Union cabinet, he said.
Both the companies had developed and supplied parts and sub-assemblies needed in space technology and defence on experimental scales, he said.
The report of the Taskforce, headed by former Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd Chairman Dr C G Krishnadas Nair, was discussed at a meeting of the Ordnance Factories Board at Kolkata on Wednesday, in which Rajagopal was also present.
He said the successful flight-testing of Brahmos missile was a breakthrough in Indian defence capabilities and congratulated the scientists who worked behind the project.
