, MARIGNANE, France: Following the authorization given by the Spanish Council of Ministers on the 22nd December, the Spanish government officially signed the contract for 45 NH90 in their tactical transport version (TTH) to equip its Armed Forces. The NH90 are part of the renovation and modernisation program of the medium helicopter transport fleet of the Ministry of Defence.
The first deliveries will take place in 2010. The new plant of Eurocopter in Spain, located in Albacete, will assume the assembly of the NH90 helicopters as well as the manufacturing of the front fuselage, for which Eurocopter in Albacete will be the sole supplier.
This new contract brings the total order of NH90 to 445 aircraft. Thirteen different nations have now officially ordered the NH90. They are: France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Sultanate of Oman, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Netherlands and Spain. This makes the NH90 the most successful multi-national helicopter program ever launched.
At the same time, the Spanish government signed a contract for four EC135 for the Unidad Militar de Emergencias (UME), a new unit of the Spanish Armed Forces.
