From 2 to 6 March, female and male members of the Reconnaissance Company of the 18th Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence Battalion attended the field training using the ten new light reconnaissance vehicles Cobra 4×4, taken over at the Kranj Military Post on Friday, 27 February.
The field training took place at the Gotenica Training Centre of the Ministry of the Interior.
The Cobra Light Reconnaissance Vehicle (LRV) is designed to detect and recognize radiological-chemical-biological contaminants. It enables the detection and recognition of chemical combat agents in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle and within the range of 5 km, as well as the control over the radiological and biological contamination in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle.
It contains the sampling system (for soil, water, etc.) and the labelling scheme (for contaminated terrain). The vehicle is capable of warning the crew if the laser is aimed at them. The armament of the vehicle can be managed from the inside. The Cobra is an amphibious vehicle, capable of crossing water obstacles regardless of their depth.
The field training started with the movement of the Reconnaissance Company from the Kranj Military Post to the Gotenica Training Centre. The civil police training centre was chosen so that the service members could change the operational environment and gain experience from operating in an unknown environment.
The service members performed a convoy movement with military police vehicles, light reconnaissance vehicles Cobra, trucks and a bus. The field training was attended by the Company HQ, Light Reconnaissance Platoon and a platoon of observers performing various tasks.
Commander of the Reconnaissance Company, First Lieutenant Gorazd Stergar, was very satisfied with the results of the field training. All planned tasks had been carried out in time without any injuries or damage.
