PakTribune, SHANGHAI, October 21(Online): Pakistan and China began joint naval maneuvers along the northeastern coast off Shanghai, a press report said on Tuesday.
The naval exercise aimed to increase defence cooperation between the two countries. China was first time taking part in a naval exercise with another country. Ships, helicopters, airplanes used by the both countries were taking part in the maneuvers, in which 700 sailors from Pakistan were engaged.
China proud of having maritime exercise with Pakistan: Xiu Ji Wen
The arrival of the ships, one destroyer (Babur) and other Tanker (Nasar), carrying about 800 navy personnel was marked by a welcome ceremony held at the port this morning, a foreign news agency reported on Tuesday.
It was attended by the top leader of the Chinese Navy Rear Admiral Xiu Ji Wen, Pakistan Ambassador to China Riaz Mohammad Khan and a senior officer of the Shangahi Municipal government.
Admiral Xiu said that China is proud of having a joint maritime exercise with Pakistan, an old, traditional and trust-worthy friend. He said Pakistan is the first foreign country with whom, China was going to conduct joint navy exercise.
He said, he was sure the exercise would be successful and help to strengthen their strategic partnership in the defence sector for peace and security.
