At Changi Air Base this morning, Chief of Defence Force LG Ng Yat Chung sent off a Republic of Singapore Air Force KC-135 tanker aircraft detachment deploying to the Gulf.
This is Singapore's latest contribution in support of the multinational reconstruction efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
During their three-month long deployment, the detachment will conduct air-to-air refuelling in support of the multinational forces. Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Ngooi Choong Ngee leads the 35-man contingent.
The SAF had contributed three Landing Ships Tank, a C-130 transport aircraft and two KC-135 tanker aircraft in previous deployments to the Gulf.
