Sikorsky Aircraft, STRATFORD: The rugged and stylish S-92 helicopter, made by Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. and flown by operators worldwide, has achieved 50,000 fleet flight hours, reaching the milestone in late June and in only 33 months after delivery of the first aircraft. Sikorsky is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp.
The S-92 has established a leading position in the offshore oil industry and fills a variety of other missions including search and rescue, VIP and head of state transport. It was the world's first helicopter certified to the latest and most rigorous safety standards of both the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the European Aviation Safety Agency/Joint Aviation Authorities.
Of the approximately 38 aircraft now in service, about half are flying 100 or more hours per month. One operator who uses S-92 helicopters to transport workers to and from oil rigs is flying an aircraft as many as 180 hours per month. Another dozen S-92 helicopters are currently in the completion stage and nearing entry into service.
“Serving the markets that we do, especially search and rescue, head of state, and offshore oil, requires an aircraft that is tough, dependable, and proven. The S-92 helicopter's track record clearly shows it is all three,” said Marc Poland, Vice President of Commercial Programs for Sikorsky.
