AFP, Russian and U.S. military personnel began exercises in Russia on May 23 centering on coordination of motorized infantry units for use in peace keeping and anti-terrorism joint operations, Russian news agencies reported.
A total of 275 troops and officers, including a U.S. motorized infantry company from the First Armored Division and a Russian motorized rifle company, were to take part in the Torgau 2005 maneuvers, which will take place until June 3.
Command and control drills with officers were to be held at the Russian Army Academy in Moscow while firing exercises with a combined motorized infantry company were to take place on the Solnechnogorsk training range outside Moscow, Interfax and ITAR-TASS news agencies said.
The war games are named after a German port on the Elbe where U.S. and Russian troops joined forces in the final days of World War II.
