Rosoboronexport, From 4 to 8 December this year, the island of Langkawi, Malaysia, will host the 9th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA’07). This major show for defense equipment in the Asia Pacific region is held biannually under the patronage of the Malaysian Ministry of Defense.
The Russian Federation is a regular participant of this defense exhibition. Here, the domestic defense industry can show its capabilities to the full extent fostering further expansion of military and technical cooperation with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Asian Pacific region as a whole.
Russian exposition at LIMA’07
In accordance with the Russian Government’s decision, Rosoboronexport is the organizer of the Russian exposition at LIMA'07 and represents around 30 enterprises of the domestic defense industrial complex. Over 450 defense and dual-purpose exhibits are displayed at the Russian stands.
Aircraft, air defense systems, and space technologies
Russia has strong positions among the world’s major military aircraft exporters. Aircraft and space launch services make up a large share of Rosoboronexport’s annual export deliveries exceeding US$ 5 billion in the past several years.
A distinctive feature of the Russian exposition at LIMA’ 07 is a wide diversity of aviation equipment.
The exposition features an export lineup of generation 4+ and 4++ Sukhoi-series aircraft, including Su-27SKM fighter, Su-30MK and Su-35 multi-role fighters, and Su-32 fighter-bomber.
Visitors are offered promotional materials on upgraded MiG-series combat aircraft of several generations, including MiG-29M, MiG-29M2, MiG-29SM and MiG-29SMT fighters.
The exposition has a variety of Russian airborne armaments on display, including the R-73E short-range air-to-air missile with an adapter pylon and a launcher for installation on foreign aircraft and the RVV-AE high performance medium-range air-to-air missile.
A prominent place in the Russian exposition is occupied by export versions of helicopters, including Mi-17V-5 military transport helicopter, Mi-28NE attack rotorcraft, Mi-35 series transport combat helicopters and Ka-50 attack helicopters. It is the Mi-17V-5 helicopter that is participating in a tender announced by Malaysia that decided to replenish its helicopter fleet.
Definitely, there will be great interest in the world’s heaviest Mi-26 transport helicopter designed to airlift troops with combat equipment and carry large cargos weighing up to 20 tons. In its landing version, the helicopter can carry up to 82 fully equipped paratroopers. The Mi-26 has an extensive record of service in many countries worldwide and in the Southeast Asian region.
Specialists from the countries of the region will be able to get familiar with Russian air defense systems, including Tor-M1 surface-to-air missile (SAM) system. The Buk-M2E medium range SAM system also has good export prospects in the Southeast Asian market. It is the sole medium range air defense system in the world able to destroy in an ECM and counterfire environment not only strategic and tactical aircraft, helicopters and cruise missiles, but also tactical ballistic and air-launched missiles, including antiradar missiles, submunitions of precision-guided weapons as well as surface and ground targets.
Naval equipment and armament
Russian naval equipment enjoys ever-growing demand in the world market. In view of specific geographic features of the Asian Pacific region and the growing need to maintain security in the littoral areas, a particular emphasis in the naval component of the Russian exposition is placed on small and medium surface ships. Project 12421 and 12418 Molniya missile boats, Project 12300 Skorpion missile gunboat, and patrol boats like Project 12150 Mangust, Project 12200 Sobol, Project 14310 Mirage, and Project 10412 Svetlyak displacing 10 to 550 tons and developing up to 55 knots are considered by right to be among the best in the world.
These ships are very effective in countering sea piracy, drug trafficking and terrorism, and as a result arouse particular interest in the Southeast Asian countries.
The Russian exposition at LIMA’07 also includes ships able to enhance the naval capabilities of the countries in the region: Project 11541 Korsar patrol ship and Project 20382 Tigr corvette.
Project 12061E Murena air-cushion landing ships offer great export promises. They can transport assault units and combat equipment, including tanks, APCs and IFVs, to long distances at the speed of 55 knots and land them on unprepared shore.
Among the submarines on display are the Project 636 boat with the CLUB-S integrated missile weapon system and the next-generation Amur-1650 submarine. In addition, the Russian exposition includes small littoral submarines.
Along with various types of combat ships foreign customers are offered a variety of weapon systems and combat and technical complexes suitable for installation on ships that are under construction at shipyards. There is high demand in the world market for Russian CLUB-S and CLUB-N integrated missile weapon systems, anti-ship cruise missiles, artillery and antisubmarine weapons, which will certainly attract visitors' attention, too.
“Here, at LIMA’07, we’re actively negotiating with our regular partners in military and technical cooperation and would-be importers of Russian defense products,” said head of Rosoboronexport’s delegation Viktor Komardin. “We’re sure the current show of aerospace and naval equipment will become a new phase of mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and the countries in the region.”
Welcome to Rosoboronexport’s Russian exposition at the LIMA’07 International Exhibition.
You’ll find the Russian exposition in Hall 2 (stands CO2, CO3) and Hall B (stands _60 and _65). Here you can assure yourself of reliability and high quality of Russian export aircraft and naval equipment.
