http://news.xinhuanet.com, MOSCOW: The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday that Russia has not conducted any nuclear tests in post-Soviet times and is not conducting them now, according to Interfaxnews agency.
The ministry made the comment after the mayors of Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging Russia to stop nuclear tests.
Russia, which ratified the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) in 2000, “is strictly observing this commitment and is determined to do so in the future, if other countries follow suit,” the ministry said.
The CTBT prohibits nuclear tests in order to establish a nuclear weapon-free world.
