RUSSIA IN THE WORLD AEROSPACE MARKET
Russia maintains the solid position among leading world exporters of military aircraft. The share of aviation export and space services contributes over 60% of total volume of Rosoboronexport supplies, which reached in 2004 the all-time highest figure of $ 5.12 billion.
Russian aircraft manufacturers are participating in nearly all largest regional tenders for procurement of multipurpose fighters and combat, transport and multipurpose helicopters. Proposed by the Russian side tender programs are among favorites not merely in 'price-quality' ratio, where Russia is traditionally strong. Our offset programs and programs for transfer of technologies and licenses, setup of aircraft maintenance centers are also becoming more competitive. Russian services in space field are meeting the ever-growing demand in the international market.
Rosoboronexport and enterprises of Russian aerospace industry demonstrate its maturity and competence as long-term and strategic partners within the framework of large-scale contracts which are already in the stage of implementation. Thus, delivery of the last batch of state-of-the-art multifunctional Su-30MKI aircraft for the Indian Air Force was successfully completed in November 2004 within the terms of the contract. The unique feature of the project is that Russia performed export supplies of on-board avionics produced in cooperation with Indian, French and Israeli companies.
Much attention has been paid to development of programs for modernization and producing perspective combat, transport and multipurpose helicopters, which contemplate, above all, using of new materials and outfit of helicopters with modern radio electronic equipment for 24-hour application of armament. In this respect there is a trend of increasing demand for up-dated versions of Russian helicopters, which have got a real trade record on the market by their reliability and simplicity of operation.
Russian aircraft supplies' scope and geography are growing considerably. Recent signing-up of a contract for supply of Mil-family helicopters to Venezuela, commenced supplies of helicopters to Czech Republic and implementation of the contract for helicopter supplies to Malaysia serve as an example to that.
Cooperation between Russian aircraft building enterprises and European partners (SAGEM, THALES, MBDA, SNECMA, and Bae Systems) has recently become more active. Joint projects on modernization of aircraft that are operational with the Armed Forces of Central and East European countries are being visualized in practical terms with some of these companies. Taking into account the interests of some European nations in equipping their armed forces with the mentioned rotary-wing aircraft, Russian side does not exclude its participation in development of heavy transport helicopters in accordance with the customer's requirements specifications.
There are certain developments in Russian-French defense and technological cooperation. In particular, joint efforts are undertaken in order to promote MiG-AT trainer with SNECMA engines to the third nation's market. This year saw commencement of joint development with SAGEM company of LINS-2000 laser inertial navigation system.
