Real-time Infrastructure Management System receives Joint Interoperability Test Command Certification
RICHARDSON, Texas: CommScope, Inc., the world leader in the design and manufacture of cable and connectivity solutions for communications networks, working together with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC), has received an Interoperability Assessment and a Standards Conformance certification for the SYSTIMAX iPatch Real-time Infrastructure Management System.
The ability to manage, configure and monitor the physical interconnections between network elements can be a challenge to any organization, particularly one with a network as complex as the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). In its February 2007 report, the JITC analysis determined that the SYSTIMAX iPatch System meets the current DoD and industry standards; provides network physical layer management within the complex DoD network architecture in a secure and reliable manner.
The DoD believes its analysis represents a thorough demonstration of a product's ability to provide protocol compliance, stability, scalability, management and security to DoD networks.
“CommScope is proud to be able to support the DoD and the people who depend on the network,” said Mark Peterson, senior vice president, global marketing, enterprise, CommScope. “We're obviously very pleased that our iPatch Solution performed so well. We believe this real-time infrastructure management system provides a significant new capability to the defense community and will enhance the DoD's ability to manage its communications network. We look forward to continuing our work with the US Government and the DoD.”
The test effort consisted of three phases. The standards conformance phase tested the iPatch System in an isolated environment using test equipment to transmit and receive traffic flows through the isolated system. In the next phase, the system was integrated into a representative DoD network and test equipment was used to transmit and receive traffic across the network. The equipment was then used to measure the number of data frames received and the packet delay time.
The measurements revealed no packet loss, 100 percent throughput and less than 10 microseconds latency for all packet sizes at all interface speeds. The final phase of testing captured and analyzed data transmissions between the SYSTIMAX iPatch Rack Manager Plus and SYSTIMAX iPatch System Manager Personal Computer and did not find any iPatch System vulnerabilities that external (or internal) hackers could exploit.
When deployed, the SYSTIMAX iPatch System will provide the DoD with an integrated, real-time infrastructure management solution comprising intelligent copper and fiber patch panels, a Rack Manager Plus unit (for managing and monitoring the panels in a rack or cabinet) and System Manager Software.
These combined elements simplify the management and control of the physical interconnections between elements of the communications network. The system will also manage patching (moves, adds and changes), provide physical layer tracing and assist in optimized port utilization. Most importantly, the iPatch System performs Simple Network Management Protocol auto-discovery of network elements and generates alarms whenever unexpected or unauthorized interconnections occur in the network – ensuring that corrective actions are taken quickly.
