http://boston.bizjournals.com/boston/stories/2004/08/16/daily40.html, Government defense giant Raytheon Co. announced that it won a $287 million contract to build Block IV Tomahawk cruise missiles in a deal that could be worth $1.6 million over the next five years, once all procurement orders are placed.
The Waltham-based Raytheon announced the missiles will be built by December 2006 at the company's Raytheon's Missile Systems unit in Tucson, Ariz., and Camden, Ark.
The company delivered the first Block IV missiles to the Navy in May. The Block IV missile, which can be launched from a surface or submarine, builds on a 32-year history for the Tomahawk, according to Navy Capt. Bob Novak, a Tomahawk program manager.
A similar Tomahawk announcement came in January 2003, when the company announced a fixed-price contract for an additional 167 Tactical Tomahawk missiles. The work was to be performed in Tucson and completed by August 2005.
Raytheon, which has 78,000 employees worldwide, boosted sales from $16.8 billion in 2002 to $18.1 billion in 2003.
