Rafael, HAIFA, Israel — The Polish MOD has signed a contract with the Bumar Company of Poland for the purchase of Rafael's SPIKE-LR multi-purpose missile systems.
The Polish MOD has awarded Bumar and Mesko a 10 year contract to supply Rafael's SPIKE-LR missiles and launchers intended for use in the Polish Infantry and for launching from Armored Personnel Carriers (APC). As part of the contract Rafael will transfer technology and production capabilities in order to certify Mesko, as a supplier of SPIKE-LR. The value of the contract to Rafael is approx. $260 million.
The SPIKE-LR is a new generation lightweight, Fire & Forget PLUS multi-purpose missile system with a range of up to 4km. The basic operation of the missile is Fire & Forget, however, the electric-optic CCD/IR seeker and fiber optic data communication link provide the gunner with the unique “PLUS” abilities to update or switch targets after launch, achieve pinpoint precision, avoid friendly fire casualties, perform surveillance and damage assessment, attain real-time intelligence, achieve extended range and attack hidden targets.
