Saab, Saab Bofors Dynamics has been awarded 10 million Euros by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration and the Finnish Naval Headquarters for the acquisition of improved boost rocket motors for the RBS15 anti-ship missile system.
The motors will replace the present motors on the RBS15 systems in the Swedish and Finnish navies and will also be used in the new RBS15 Mk3 systems.
ROXEL France, a French subsidiary of ROXEL SAS, will supply the motors.
The Saab RBS15 family of long-range anti-ship missile systems is designed to meet future requirements in a variety of operational circumstances such as open-sea engagements, anti-invasion defence and littoral warfare close to land or among islands.
The 'fire-and-forget' RBS15 possesses an intelligent, frequency-agile radar seeker; advanced navigation, guidance and altimetry electronics and powerful defence penetration and hit capabilities. The new-generation RBS15 Mk3 is said to offer extended range and increased tactical flexibility compared with earlier versions.
