the idea to procure MiG-29, while already having the much more superior Su-27/-30, still doesn't make sense to me. So yes, "diversification" is just an excuse to commit corruption

Mig 29 and M346 from E-Sollution still not being confirmed but I suspect M346 as Hawk 200 replacement will have much stronger probability to be execute. M346F is also rumours part of procurement condition frm Italy Parliement grant for Garibaldi, including PPA and Sub.

Indonesia is corrupt country, no doubt about that. However corruption still happen even in every corner of the world. In other case, even text book G to G scheme for F-16 and AH-64E, still can be corrupted Dihukum Seumur Hidup, Brigjen Teddy Selewengkan Dana Pembelian F16 dan Apache. Thus it should be differed between corruption and haphazard procurement policies.

Corruption practices has to be proven, and if later on current procurement can be proven, and like the corruption case on AH-64E, then it will be later on shown eventually. Even G to G with US there're brokerage that involve. Boeing and LM also use sales lobby. Perhaps current brokerage like E-Sollution in fact just more 'visible' in their practices compare to other 'western' brokerage, that can be camouflage under G to G agreement.

This brokerage turn into MIC wannabe now also being approach by US sales team. This is shown how even procurement scheme that consider by many as more stringent one, the relationship existance of brokerage in sales lobby still happening.

There're so many believes especially in South East Asia forums that using middle man (brokerage) lead to corruption. While this is also common practices in many government and commercial procurement everywhere.

Corruption can still come whether coming from proper scheme or from loosen ones. It is all back to the financing scheme control and assets production and deliveries scheme. This is ussually where potential invoicing discrepencies happen, and under the table payment occured.

It is understandable and maybe even standard that lobbyists/agents get financial compensation, and if officials/politicians/officers getting a nice bonus while modernizing/improve the Indonesian armed forces, why not?

But it becomes regrettable and just wrong if because of those bonus receivers, TNI becomes an inefficient, ineffective, chaotic and weak armed forces.

And on top of this, the amount of luxurious and extreme expensive VIP transport vehicles (escort motorcycles, cars, helicopters, business jets) is just ridiculous and not proportional to the requirement and our limited budget.

This no arguement on that. VIP sq now being enlarge from 1 (Sq 17th) to 3 (Sq 17th, 18th, and 45th). 17th handle Boeing 737, 18th Falcon 8X, and 45th Helicopters. Enlarging squadrons base on type is make sense on operational practices. Question still why the need to enlarge VIP squadrons ahead of the need on operational ones.

TNI becomes an inefficient, ineffective, chaotic and weak armed forces.
On this I have to see the development. So far for sure procurement of 42 Rafale is the largest in both number and scope. This kind of procurement not having done in scope since Soeharto era Hawk 200/100. Thus this is not inefficient trend.

Will see if those rumours procurement coming through or not. I'm still not see contracted money trail yet. Sales lobby and procurement intention in Indonesia does not automatically make into Contractual Payment yet. Finance Minister just being replace, and from what I Heard of new minister, he is more stringent on budget calculation.

TNI-AU F-16 doing refueling exercise with the courtesy of RSAF A330 MRTT. TNI AU and RSAF cooperation om this has been done for years, as effort to keep F-16 pilots proficiencies on air refueling.

Still I also sense this is part of A330 MRTT campaign. Like I said before, the IL-78 sales lobby momentum seems increasing, but does not mean Airbus lobby not fight back.

During TNI-Fair 2026 at National Monument (Monas) area this weekend, DI executive claim they already make industrial collaboration agreement (ICA) with KAI to manufacture 15% of KF-21 airframe.

This is part of agreement to procure 16 KF-21 (which Korean source claim as 1st batch of 48). Will see how this is developing. Could this later on going to build what being rumours of Rafale + KF-21 on Western Indonesia and J-10CE on Eastern Indonesia ?

This 15% and a prototype is actually quite a lot as compensation for the procurement of just 16 aircrafts and the much smaller amount of our investment than initially planned.

It will be great if after 2035-2040 Indonesia will only have three different kinds of fighterjets. But i am afraid that will be an illusion to think that it will become reality.

15% workload is being calculate by KAI as part of 48 agreement for IF-21. Not clear yet will it be Blk 1 or Blk 2. Indonesia MinDef want to get Multirole Blk 2 not Air Defence variance Blk 1. From what I gather MinDef want to make sure readiness on Blk 2 before commiting to order. However if order now it is not clear yet which block it will be.

The problem now is to prepare the budget to get the KF-21 hangar in DI workable. The hangar is being remodelled from Assembly line into composite part manufacturing. That's the Investment needed. DI already have some composite materials facility, but to get in to 15% airframe, seems they need to get more. Thus the budget calculation not only for 16 (later on 48) KF-21 that has to be prepare.

TNI-AU already 3 type Fighterjets force. KF-21 will be F-16 replacement, M346F is to replace Hawk 200, and Rafale is the new capacity (not replacement).

What's not clear yet the fate of Su-27/30. I'm still doubtfull on present condition on Su-35, again mostly due to lack credible financing scheme. This is thinking Geopolitics asside and Russia own war capacity to fullfill export order. Thus if the thinking diversification still hold, J-10CE seems getting traction. There's talk that China in Egypt already open to export J-16, so who knows.

KAAN is still long way to go, despite claim on Turkiye media and forums. TF35000 still in development, and if they can get it operational by 2034-40 it is already achivement. However by that time the Administration already change, so who knows.

Thus from 3 type Fighterjets AF, TNI-AU more likely end up with 4 type Fighterjets. However I have doubt it will be 5 type, despite all the rumours. The money trails not yet goes that way.

China isn't allowed to export the Flanker airframe due to previous agreements with Russia.
Not according Chinese forums and media. The agreement is for J-11 that basically license build Flanker. J-11 is using Russian avionics, only some Chinese sensors and Russian engine. J-16 is already modified airframe, Chinese engines and Avionics and sensors. Practically no Russian left in J-16.

It is like J-7E, only superficially resemblances to Mig 21 F-13. However it is already China modified airframe, sensors, electronics and engine. China export J-7E to various Global South/3rd world customers in the 90's and early 2000.

Thus the case of J-11 and J-16 is different, and yes there's agreement for China not to export License build Flankers, but not China own development. Why China only offering J-10CE at this time ? My suspect is because they offer that mostly to J-7E customers that only need single engine MRCA. However by bring in J-16 to Egypt Al-Alamein Air Show, I do suspect China sales lobby already send signal.

Add:
Argument that say China can not export J-16 is coming from mostly Western sources or reddit forums that put J-11 and J-16 in same catagory. However J-16 is basically China own development with different everything from Flanker. Thus why Weibo and Chinese forums claim J-16 is not license Flankers, thus China has right to export it, if they choose to do so.

However I suspect more why China has not exported J-16 yet, is more the fact it is PLAAF main back bone fighter. Perhaps they are still testing the water for potential market, as they are doing in Egypt.

During TNI-Fair, DI claim the need for N219 can reach up to 180 aircraft. This is combination from Ministry of Defense, Government Institution and Commercial need for Pioneer Routes on isolate area and islands. So far they claim the contract for 6 TNI-AD and 7 for commercial already entering production line schedule.

By nature this kind of planes is really suite for large archipelago like Indonesia. Question will always be whether DI will not mees up their cash flow again, and result on delay as happen several Times already. Those that reduce customer confidence on DI.

The main design remains a Russian born design. The Flanker, regardless of who makes and where it's components are from, is Russian in its origins. And the Chinese aren't allowed to export any Flanker design. This coming from both Russian and Chinese users I talk with.

Well I got different massage from Chinese forums and weibos. The definitive agreement is J-11 can not be exported, while J-16 seems there's legal disagreement on interpretation of license design. Like I said, J-16 is different then Su-30 like J-7E different then Mig 21.

Does not mean China will definitely going to market J-16 soon, but just point out different legal intepretation on the agreement seems can happen on J-16. We are not also talk on J-15, that based on Su-33. The main design can still be Russian, but the changes already significant that make them different Patent already. Different enough from my understanding that J-15 and J-16 are already under Chinese patent/IP Rights, not with Russian anymore.

Putting J-16 on foreign Air Show in target market area, already in my opinion shown different interpretation within Chinese sales team. Whether China want to pursue is another story, but on legal base, they can argue their case on that. This is why I still see situation on J-16 is different then J-11, all back to interpretation on what is IP rights on a design.

Example also why Leonardo can sell M346 eventough the design come from Yak-130. Point is IP rights is tricky business and have loop holes on that.

Keris FB shown photos of TNI-AU Su-27 being refurbished under MRO project done by Belarus company but conducted at Hasanuddin AB.

What I would like to point out, even doing this has to be done by Belarus MRO company as arrange contract payment to Russia company seems still difficult effort to take. This I suspect also involve that UAE base brokerage to arrange the contract.

If doing MRO is also difficult to arrange direct with Russian company, how it is then going to be possible to arrange procurement deal with Rosoboron? I'm very curious what Brokerage can do their magic on arranging this.

I do believe there's intentions to get more Flankers, however until they can arrange acceptable credit line satisfied by both parties (supplier and buyer), then I can't see the money trail move on.

The T-50s have replaced the Hawk Mk.53.
The Hawks Mk.109 and 209 from SkU 12 are transferred to SkU 1 at Supadio. That means the Rafales have replaced one squadron of Mk.109/209, the other two squadrons of Rafales are capacity expansion, and in the future the last Hawks of SkU 1 will be replaced by the M346 (if this plan will not be cancelled).

What about the F-5E/F from SkU 14, these were replaced by a handful of F-16s as interim solution, right?

Today on Lord NJ Instagram page

Interesting to see, I can spot the air launched variant of BrahMos.
40 Su-30MKI of the Indian Air Force are modified for the Brahmos NG, i wonder if TNI-AU's Su-30MK2 are also modifidable for the Brahmos.

Yes as Sq 3 focus with F-16 AM/BM after the MLU. Basically F-16 squadron build with 10-12 Fighters instead 16 Fighters as TNI-AU standard. Still they make 3 Sq, thus if KF-21 being procured as initial plan of 48, then it fit the number for 3 standard sq. Thus in my opinion, it is not interim solution, but more decision to build squadron with less aircraft numbers, until replacement come.
