Well then, this is a surprise. AIM-424 “Malice” air-to-air missile, two stage long range AAM.

Presumably much longer range than AIM-260, otherwise the US Navy probably would not incur the expense of another new air to air missile.
And another missile which likely is compatible with launch from NASAMS.
Being test flown on F-18E/F as well as F-35C.

If true, this will be another vote getter for the Democrats. GOP candidates will significant numbers of black voters must be pi$$ed.
That's next-level contempt for history. Utterly disgusting if it's true. I did think there was a convention about not naming carriers after serving presidents but then again, even if there were, the current administration hasn't been much inclined to follow tradition.

It may be click-bait however - Snopes is calling it "unrated" right now.

Not everything is going to be, nor does it need to be, launched from NASAMs.

While getting something like Patriot/THAAD or SM-2/6 should be a priority, there is a larger and growing gap at the low end of the mix that shooting surface based AIM-120 at (let alone the AIM-424) is not economical.

For good reason at the moment it is click bait.. The origin is a CNN article that sources from an unnamed leaker. We have no idea who’s leaking or the validity of said leak.
This could be a thing, it could be someone close to it reporting or it could be a rumor. Heck it could even be a lie meant to smear or it might have been an actual thing leaked to test how it would go over with the Public.
Without documentation or statements confirming or denying via the Department of war, Department of Navy, Executive Branch its a thing that does nothing but inflame emotions. With those partisan against the Trump admin picking it up as a rally cry.

Might not matter if proposed changes to the Ford CVN design (EMALS, AAG removal, island relocation) actually happen. There won't be a 4th CVN any time soon to name as most of us on this site won't be around.

I doubt they will happen. The Steam Cats and recovery system isn’t in production and ended with the last of the Nimitz class. The same problem for the elevators. The island changes would require a complete change to the design and would cost a fortune for no benefit other than it looks good.

One can only hope wrt EMALS. As for the island, perhaps painting it orange will appease the IOTUS.

He has put or had put by others his name on virtually everything else in the USA so it's probably a bit more than a rumour don't you think? Has anyone other President behaved this way?

If you want me to say he’s a Narcissist. Yeah he his. He literally has buildings with his name in 50ft. Golden letters.
But for the Carrier? His first Administration Trump 45 was the one that put forward CVN81for the Dorris Miller name. Historically Enlisted men don’t get Carrier namesake as their honor, they get Frigates Destroyers and Cutters.
Second he wants the Trump class Super Dreadnaught space battleship to take his name.
now is it more than a rumor? It’s Tuesday as I write this and nothing more as come out.
until and unless we get a statement from the Government we should hold judgement.
