That looks like quite a short barrel. I wonder why they've not gone for something with longer range. On the occasion of Vietnam’s 80th National Day, the nation’s top weapons manufacturer introduced a newly developed self-propelled artillery platform equipped with an armored cabin.

I wonder what the cannon is. Vietnam has shown off multiple SP artillery systems before that consisted of an old gun stuck on a new chassis. I suspect, despite the modern-looking armored chassis, that this is more of the same. That looks like quite a short barrel. I wonder why they've not gone for something with longer range.
Vietnam has weapon systems in service older then my parents, so this isn't that surprising. D-20s are a decent older howitzer. They've been around for ages, they're pretty sturdy, and there's a plethora of ammo for them. They're not a modern weapon system by any reasonable standard, but that's obviously not what Vietnam is going for with these conversions. The intent appears to be to get the most out of their older kit.D-20? That's older than I am! Well, maybe it's cheap, & I expect Vietnam has a lot of D-20s.
The M-46/Type 59-1 will be mounted on 8x8 trucks but will only be deployed to coastal defense artillery unitsI think you're right about getting the most out of old kit. I see that they've also done M-46 SP conversions. More of the same, I presume.

The Russian influence clearly shown on both design, but it is expected as Russian armoured is what they are familiar with. The X prefix shown both type begin as Experiment Prototypes. However as Vietnam already shown them on parade, I suspect both will be inducted to their reguler production line.
