USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) Aircraft Carrier - US Navy

SS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) deck department Sailors maintain a phone and distance (P & D) line during a replenishment at sea (RAS) with the Military Sealift Command (MSC) underway replenishment oiler USNS Walter S. Diehl (T-AO 193). The P & D line is used during a RAS to provide communication between each ship's commanding officer, and to provide the bridge with a reference of the distance between both ships. Currently underway in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility, Kitty Hawk demonstrates power projection and sea control as the U.S. Navy's only permanently, forward-deployed aircraft carrier.
